Supporting Every Child to Flourish
At Grafton Primary School, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background or circumstances. Pupil Premium funding enables us to provide additional support, opportunities and experiences that help children achieve their full potential, both academically and personally.
What is the Pupil Premium?
The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the Government to schools to help improve outcomes for children who may face barriers to learning. Schools decide how best to use this funding to meet the individual needs of their pupils and to ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed.
Who is Eligible?
Schools receive Pupil Premium funding for children who meet one or more of the following criteria:
Free School Meals (FSM Ever 6) – Children who are currently eligible for Free School Meals or have been eligible at any point during the last six years.
Looked-After and Previously Looked-After Children – Children who are in the care of a local authority, or who have left care through adoption, a special guardianship order or a child arrangements order.
Service Pupil Premium – Children whose parent or carer is currently serving in the regular armed forces.
Free School Meals Eligibility
Your child may be eligible for Free School Meals if you receive certain benefits, including:
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA)
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (provided you are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and your annual household income is below the Government threshold)
- Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying)
- Universal Credit (subject to current Government eligibility criteria)
If you think your child may be eligible, we strongly encourage you to apply. Even if your child receives universal free school meals because they are in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2, registering for eligibility may provide additional funding that directly benefits your child and the wider school community.
How We Use Pupil Premium at Grafton
At Grafton, we use Pupil Premium funding thoughtfully and strategically to ensure children receive the support they need to flourish.
Funding may be used to:
- provide targeted support in reading, writing and mathematics
- deliver high-quality teaching and staff professional development
- offer small-group or individual interventions
- support children's social, emotional and wellbeing needs
- remove barriers to learning, including attendance and engagement
- provide enriching experiences and opportunities that broaden children's horizons
Our approach is rooted in early identification, personalised support and careful monitoring. We believe that every child deserves to feel known, valued and capable of success, and we continually evaluate the impact of our provision to ensure funding is making a meaningful difference.
